Bethesda Tutors chooses only the best, most qualified tutors to meet the needs of our clients. All tutors have at least a Masters degree from a prestigious university and are certified experts in their fields. We have a passion for teaching and have crafted tips and techniques to help our students master their coursework and improve their grades.

OUR STRATEGY

We employ a two part strategy to help our students start seeing results.

1. Questions are the answer.

Tutoring is most effective when done through asking questions. Questions engage both the student and the tutor and allow for a more dynamic session. Only by asking the critical questions and having students talk their thought process aloud, can we ensure full comprehension. The more a tutor knows about the student (strengths, weaknesses and thoughts), the more tailored the teaching methods can be and the stronger the results.

2. Content Mastery

We firmly believe that understanding concepts in their entirety has tremendous value. Math and especially Economics demand a mastery of the theories and concepts that go beyond just a cursory understanding. Our tutors teach you the tricks that will help you unlock the material at its core, allowing you to perform well on quizzes, tests, midterms and finals. We take our tutoring to the next level, and are not satisfied unless our students show results.

Meet our tutors

Rudi Sarna, MPP

Rudi has been tutoring students of all ages in math and economics since 2010. He has helped over 250 clients improve their grades, increase their standardized test scores and boost their confidence. After graduating from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Rudi was named a Presidential Management Fellow, working at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in Washington, D.C.

Rudi graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a dual degree in both Economics and Finance. He won the prestigious H.C. Byrd Award, recognizing him as the top graduate in his senior class. He was also awarded the Spirit of Maryland award in 2009 as a testament to his superior academic achievements and leadership ability. He scored in the 97th percentile on his GREs, and is happy to help you!

Nakul Kumar, PhD

Dr. Kumar is consistently rated among the best economics professors at every university he has worked with, ranging from Denison University in Ohio to Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania. Nakul now teaches a variety of Economics courses as part of the Northern Virginia Community College system where he additionally lends his talents to a number of faculty boards and committees.

Nakul has worked with hundreds of students, teaching Economics and AP classes. He'd love to find time to help you excel.

His strategy is simple - first, make the subjects fun and accessible by answering why does the subject matter in the first place, and how will it help me? Second, how do we make the material approachable and digestible? Memorization is never the answer -however good comprehension will stay with us.
